I've done something I NEVER thought I'd do.

Sew a skirt.

I hate skirts. I own a couple because I have to, but I hate them. I hate shopping for skirts. I hate wearing skirts. But every now and then an occasion FORCES me to succumb to peer pressure and look like a girl.

I actually kind of like Soulemama's pretty skirts so a week or so ago I picked up the pattern, Simplicity 7229, just in case I ever lost my mind and wanted to make one.

Well, I didn't lose my mind, I lost a friend. A fellow geocacher finally lost her battle with cancer. We will be attending the funeral this weekend. I went into panic mode knowing I don't have a skirt to wear. I dragged out the pattern, read the fabric requirements and remembered that I had a thrifted tablecloth (at least that's what I think it was) that just might do the trick.

Here it is, unhemmed. I plan to use Lera's trick for hemming and use double fold bias tape. I will finish it but I'm not promising to wear it.

Part of my problem is I really don't have anything to wear with it. I'm a t-shirt and jeans kind of gal. I might see if I can find a top to buy to go with it. The good news is I don't need to buy the complete outfit and the better news is if I remember correctly that tablecloth cost $1.99!!

I'm thinking a nice scoopy neck black t-shirt with black sandals.

Hey - I have that same EXACT pattern. I must know - did it really take just an hour? I was hoping to make it soon, but then I got AB's Barcelona Skirts pattern that I want to make first.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.

I'm sorry about your friend.

I love the skirt! LOVE the pattern. I think a navy blue scoop neck shirt would look great with it!

Note: the parts of the skirt that look very navy blue in the picture are very black in real life. :)

Sorry to hear about your friend.

That skirt is too cute. Really. You *must* wear it.

I'm a white t-shirt kind of gal. I wear them under cardigans all the time. Do you have a white tee and a cardigan to go over it (partially buttoned)?

So sorry for the loss of your friend.

The skirt looks great and I think the black t would be great with it. I can't believe you made it from a tablecloth!

I'm so sorry about your friend.

That skirt turned out awesome and you should be proud to wear it. I think it would look fantastic with a black t-shirt. You've gotta wear it because its origin makes a great story.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Your skirt turned out really cute and a black or white tee would look great. I didn't use to wear skirts either. But now I do. Easy to make and easy to wear in the summer!

A t-shirt is perfect for a skirt like that. Speaking as a t-shirt-and-jeans kind of gal myself, wearing a skirt can be really fun and feminine once in a while, and I *always* wear one of my regular t-shirts when I do. Black is perfect for that skirt. And a funeral, for that matter.

I can't believe that was once a tablecloth. That's just one more thing that makes me wish I could sew!
